Courage

Brene Brown book, "Braving the Wilderness"

I am so enjoying this book by Brene Brown, and its got me thinking about how courage has shown up in my life.

Do you think of yourself as courageous?
If I asked, I think that the majority of people, myself included, would all say no. Even after having taken some big scary steps in my life, I still struggle to see myself as courageous. I think it's because we don’t see or feel our courage when we are in the comfort zone of our everyday lives. But the truth is that we are ALL courageous. We just don’t know it yet. Courage is a sneaky little thing that only shows up when we are just about pull the trigger and step forward into that thing we are truly afraid of.

I generally don’t believe in having regrets in life, but if there is one thing that I wish I had learned earlier on its this. Throughout my life, fear has held me back from doing so many things –leaving relationships, changing jobs, learning to surf, asking for a raise, speaking on stage, starting a business etc. You know the fears … Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of getting hurt. Fear of being lonely, and so many others that I could list. I would look at others doing the things and wish that I was half as brave as they were. But every time that I have looked past fear and moved toward the things I was afraid of, courage that I had no idea existed in me rose to the surface. Courage that allowed me to act in spite of fear. I just needed to step up to the plate to find it.

So ask me again. Am I courageous? Yes! Yes, I am. AND SO ARE YOU!!! How will you find your courage? What fears will you step towards this year? See mine in the comments below and let me know what yours is.
